BARITE CRYSTAL

Silverband Mine, Great Dun Fell, Milburn, Cumbria

A translucent, colourless barite crystal with a chisel termination. This is a classic mineral from a famous mine.

Silverband mine was a barite mine on the western edge of the Northern Pennine Orefield. It was famous amongst collectors for its magnificent barite crystals. The surface of the crystal faces are naturally etched which give it a silky lustre.
