‘BANDED ARAGONITE’
Swakopmund, Namibia
This attractive rock, known as ‘banded aragonite’ or ‘golden aragonite’, is quarried periodically east of Swakopmund, a city on the coast of Namibia.
It is actually a rock called travertine which is deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. It is formed by precipitation of calcium carbonate.
