AN ATLAS OF CARBONIFEROUS BASIN EVOLUTION IN NORTHERN ENGLAND

Geological Society Memoir 28

By A.J. Fraser and R.L. Gawthorpe

(Second hand copy in unused condition)

This atlas of the Carboniferous in Northern England covers a classic area of British geology - an area that is probably the most researched in the whole of the British Isles. This is mainly due to the extensive and often spectacular surface outcrops.

This is an academic and highly technical publication. Using multifold seismic and borehole data collected by the oil industry, the authors look beyond the surface exposures and gain some new insights into the structure and stratigraphy of the Carboniferous period.

Of particular interest are the palaeofacies maps which show the distribution of rocks with different characteristics at the various stages of the Carboniferous, thus the geography of Northern England through this time period.

Published by the Geological Society. 2003.
79 pages. Soft cover. Spiral bound. Black and white and some colour photographs, maps and illustrations. Excellent condition.
