AMMONITE SUTURE LINES IN BEACH PEBBLE - Yorkshire
« backAMMONITE SUTURE LINES
Preserved in beach pebble (cut and polished)
Holderness, Yorkshire
A curious rounded beach pebble that is part of a fossil ammonite, showing the intricate suture lines. Presented in a lidded gift box.
Ammonites have complex patterns of suture lines which occur at the intersection of the chamber wall and the outer shell. The patterns vary between species and they can be very beautiful. The chamber walls are straight except where they meet the outer shell.
The ammonite is Jurassic in age and was brought to Holderness from further north by glaciers in the Ice Age.
