AMMONITE-RICH NODULE

190 million years old

Lower Lias.

Southam, Warwickshire


Part of a natural limestone nodule from the famous cement works quarry at Southam.

It is studded with beautiful fossil ammonites that have the shells preserved in the mineral calcite. The body chamber of one of the ammonites is lined with sparkling calcite crystals.


This specimen was collected in 1996.
