AMETHYST LACE AGATE

A spectacular and beautiful cut and polished agate. It is polished on one face with the other face natural.
Agate is an extremely attractive variety of quartz that slowly crystallised in layers. The amethyst lace agate from northern Mexico mostly occurs in veins rather than nodules.
In this case a fault or fracture plane in the rock has provided a conduit for hot mineral-rich fluids to deposit several alternating bands of amethyst crystals and agate. Pyrite (fools gold) is also present.
