AGATE-BEARING LAVA

280 million years old (Permian period)

Waldhambach near Landau, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

Agate is a variety of quartz that slowly crystallised in concentric layers within gas bubbles inside volcanic lava.

This fine example of volcanic lava from a famous German locality shows one large and numerous small cavities filled with agate.

One face has been cut flat and partially polished. The base is flat so that it sits well for display. Provided with a label as shown.
