A HISTORY OF THE GEOLOGICAL SURVEY IN SCOTLAND

By R.B. Wilson

Booklet (second hand copy in good condition) (1977)

In the early part of the 19th century accurate maps were being produced by the Ordnance Survey. In some areas surveyors coloured their maps to depict the boundaries of various rock formations observed, but the geology was of a very general nature.

The value of accurate geological mapping was becoming apparent, not only for research but also for accessing mineral wealth. Consequently in 1835 the Geological Survey of Great Britain was established. This little booklet is the story of the Geological Survey in Scotland.
